We started to consult Joshua Hovey because we wanted to do effective renovation and maintenance to our 18th century Grade 2 listed building on the edge of the Cotswolds near Bath. Our house is made from Bath stone, and is of an age when damp courses were not used, so the property needs to "breathe" to regulate moisture. Previous work was not sympathetic to that. Additionally re-pointing and repairs were needed to some of the stonework, and refurbishment of solid wood kitchen units that had suffered from damp. In discussion with us, Joshua handled the application for listed building consent and created schedules and plans for the builders. The work also included improving ventilation with a couple of extractor fans and by opening capped chimneys; cleaning off traditional paint (in some places this was then limewashed, in others it was left bare); repainting painted timber; and renewing lead flashing. The process went smoothly and the results are impressive.

We have a grade 2 listed property in a southern Cotswold historic town which required internal and external work to sensitively manage damp problems in our 18th Century home.
